Mazda 6 Review
Since its release in 2002 the Mazda 6 has proven itself to
be a very successful transition from the 626 for Mazda.
Although the Mazda 6 has never been released in a 6 cylinder
format, the 2.3L litre 4 cylinder engine has proven itself
over its 5 year stint by delivering Australian mid-size 4
cylinder buyers plenty of power (122kW @ 6500 RPM) whilst
offering great economy as well (8.8 litres per 100km’s in
manual and 8.9 for automatic models).
Mazda 6 Safety:
The Mazda 6’s sporty driving feel actually makes for a very
safe car. Mazda claim the 6’s exceptional steering, handling
and braking actually go a long toward avoiding potential
situations in the first place.
All Mazda 6 models are equipped with 6 SRS airbags. The
front side airbags protect head and upper body in the event
of a side impact. The side curtain airbags also contribute
to head and upper body protection by spanning the windows
along the side of the vehicle.
All Mazda 6’s feature breakaway brake peddles - the brake
peddles actually break away in the event of a frontal impact
which can considerably reduce the chance of leg injuries.

The Mazda 6 also features Mazda’s Triple H safety
construction which maintains the structural integrity of the
passenger area. The rigid frame also contributes to improved
handling. The front and rear of the Mazda 6 absorb impact
energy by crumpling in strategic places which reducing the
likelihood of intrusion of the cars outer parts entering
into the passenger area in the event of an impact.
The entire Mazda 6 range offers ABS (Anti-Lock Braking
System) facilitating increased driver steering control in
the event of a sudden stop and EBD (Electronic Brake-Force
Distribution), which means the Mazda 6 senses the
distribution of weight in cabin (amount of passengers and
where) and will optimise braking according to the cars
occupancy which makes for optimum braking whether your on
your own, or the car is full.
Mazda 6 Upgrade:
The most recent upgrade to the Mazda 6 is to be the last
before the all new Mazda 6 is released in 2008. The recent
upgrade saw all models receive chrome outer door handles and
the offer of two new exterior colours – Stormy Blue (also
available on the Mazda MX-5) and Sparkling Silver which was
offered when the Mazda 6 was first released, and has been
offered on a number of Mazda models over the years.
