About Lotus Cars
A British manufacturer, Lotus cars are
famous for their innovative lightweight designs and
exceptional handling. Lotus builds both race cars and
production cars and is based in
Norfolk, England.
Lotus began back in the 50's as
Lotus
Engineering Ltd. The company's founder, Colin Chapman
graduated out of University College in London in 1952. The
first Lotus factory was located in Hornsey, behind the
Railway Hotel in some old stables.
Team Lotus, (the Lotus racing team) was
competitive in
Formula One motor racing from 1958 through to 1994. Lotus
have a modern factory at Hethel, near Wymondham. The Lotus
Factory site is the former Hethel RAF base. The old runway
provides sections of the now Lotus testing track. Lotus have
occupied this site since the sixties.
