Lamborghini, or Automobili Lamborghini is of course a famous
maker of Italian supercars and sports cars. Automobili
Lamborghini is located in Sant'Agata Bolognese, a small
Italian village near Bologna. Lamborghini today is a
subsidiary of
Audi AG, the German car manufacturer which in turn is a
subsidiary of
Volkswagen.
Lamborghini was founded in 1963 by the late Ferruccio
Lamborghini (April 28, 1916 - February 20, 1993). Ferruccio
Lamborghini began his automotive exploits by customising
tractors for neighbouring farmers from spare parts.
Lamborghini then went on to manufacturing his own parts, and
then tractors.
The Lamborghini story really began taking shape when
Ferruccio Lamborghini approached Enzo
Ferrari when he owned a Ferrari 205 GT. Ferruccio wasn’t
happy with the clutch in the 250 GT. As Ferrari wasn’t
interested in discussing the problem with Lamborghini,
Lamborghini dismantled the Ferrari’s clutch himself only to
discover the manufacturer was the same as the one who
supplied the clutches for his tractors.
Lamborghini found suitable components for the Ferrari in his
own warehouse and solved the issues surrounding the problem
clutch. It was then that Lamborghini was inspired to build a
superior sports car. Since then we’ve seen the birth of some
of the world’s most famous supercars in the 350 and 450 GT’s,
the Miura and the legendary Lamborghini Countach.
In
Australia today we have the
Lamborghini Gallardo, and the awesome Lamborghini Murcielago.
